Farm to Family Welcome

I am Cathy, the owner and creator of Farm to Family.  I am a one woman show, so my farm is very small.  I started my farm because I love to grow plants and animals in a happy and healthy environment to create the most nutritious food.  I believe food is our medicine, as we are what we eat.  I believe big, corporate agriculture is adding to the declining condition of the consumer’s health and to Earth’s overall health.

Farm to Family was created in 2014 and I began selling produce to Mariposa Market and seedings at the Farmers’ Market.  Last year, I expanded my gardens and sales to include Crush, Ukiah Natural Foods, Ukiah Brewery, Chop-Chop, Tastebuds, Patrona’s, Adam’s, and CaribbeanVybes.  I no longer attend Farmers’ Market.  I would, however like to offer the opportunity for chefs and individual clients to shop here on the farm in person.  My ideal is to have chefs and markets alike order specific plots and/or livestock, so I may supply custom food needs.

Developing relationships with chefs regarding personalized growing is a goal I would like to accomplish.  I would eventually like to supply organic livestock on the hoof for nose to tail dining experiences.  I am putting this out there online, because I am a one woman show.  I have to do it all:  plan gardens, germinate seeds, transplant and grow crops, harvest, market, website, sell products, cold call all clients with current availabilities……  So chefs out there interested in creating nose to tail dining experiences, or in need of certain herbs or produce currently unavailable to you… contact me, and we will make a plan.

Besides growing food, I grow medicinal herbs that have volunteered in my gardens. This year, I intend on expanding Farm to Family to include an herbal self-care products line.  I have been developing effective recipes for relevant self-care needs over the last 25yrs.  I use organic, healthy, non-toxic ingredients for all my products and will use some of the herbs I grow here on my farm.

I have created the following products and look forward to making up a batch of each recipe and have them available at local natural grocery stores and online for people to access before the end of the year:  Skinsavor, insect repellant, vapor rub, poison oak remedy, Zap that Sap, swimmer’s ear prevention, and a new recipe: topical pain balm,

A Most Flavorful, Nutritive Green

Parsley is more than just a garnish; it is a flavorful, nutrient-rich green.  Parsley is a relative of celery and was once referred to as “rock celery”.  Mostly we see parsley as a garnish and used for good breath following a meal.  You may be surprised to know that parsley contains Vitamins K, C, & A; folate; iron; copper; potassium; magnesium, fiber, calcium; manganese; phosphorus; zinc; and vitamins B3 & B1.  Parsley is like the unsung hero of the vegetable world.  I use parsley all the time in many dishes:  meatballs, pesto, on sandwiches, in smoothies, in salads, in soups, in stews, in falafels, on chopped on top of brussel sprouts or asparagus, and countless more… Not only does it taste great, it is packed with vital nutrients.
